Ultimately, Gribbin illustrates how chaos and complexity permeate the universe on every scale, governing the evolution of life and galaxies alike. Gribbin encouraged his readers to meditate on the story of the universe from its earliest beginnings, and how its basic elements are written in every molecule of our bodies, and resplendent in our brains and nerves.

The book remained relatively readable, but I simplicuty a hard time keeping track of what the major theme of each chapter was supposed to be. This self advertisement is amusing to behold. Makes one wonder about our own existence.

This book I have many John Gribbin books, and have enjoyed every one of them so far. You get a complex system teetering on the edge of chaos.

Many of the examples were truly fascinating, which kept me reading, but I feel the organization of the book could have been significantly better. Complexity — Emergence — Ecological Cognition. It also rubbed me the wrong way that a large percentage of the footnotes were references to other books by Gribbin – at some points it was almost as if this book was nothing but a large advertisement.

Now astrophysicist John Gribbin draws on his expertise to explore, in prose that communicates not only the wonder but the substance of cutting-edge science, the principles behind chaos and complexity.
